My Story

I have been in love with video games for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of wandering around the islands of Myst on my family's chunky old PC. I discovered the tool Game Maker while in middle school, which sparked my passion for coding and set me on the path to become a software developer.

After graduating Virginia Tech with dual degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics in December of 2011, I got hired onto the Bing Maps team at Microsoft as a Software Engineer. I spent nearly a decade at Microsoft, developing front end features for the Bing Maps website using C#, Typescript, and HTML and eventually becoming a Senior Software Engineer.

During the summer of 2021, I was feeling the effects of burnout and decided to take a break from the tech industry. Baking had been one of the few things bringing me joy during the pandemic, so I took a year to work as a baker at Lowrider Cookie Co. But I was missing the problem solving opportunities that coding afforded and decided to return to what got me into programming in the first place - Game Development.

Over the next few years, I taught myself Unity, began developing games for jams, and took the University of Washington's Game Design certificate program. I have realized that Game Development is my true passion; no other field offers the unique fusion of artistic outlet and creative problem solving that making games affords. I hope to grow my career by continuing to make personal game projects, and eventually getting a job in the Game Dev industry.
